Joe Bisenius (b. 1982) first experienced professional baseball as a batboy for his hometown independent league team: the Sioux City Explorers. That experience helped spark his desire to pursue a baseball career after high school, which included stops at Iowa Western Community College, Oklahoma City University, and then drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2004. He made the Phillies’ Opening Day roster in 2007. The hard throwing right-handed relief pitcher appeared in two games in April before being sent down to the minors. He was called up by the Phillies for eight days during their 2008 World Championship season, but never got into a game. In 2010 he signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals. He was called up to the Majors in September and appeared in five games. He currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska where he scouts for the Minnesota Twins in the upper Midwest.
